The management of chronic liver disease has traditionally relied on liver biopsy to evaluate for fibrosis and cirrhosis. However, liver biopsy is invasive and associated with a risk of complications, as well as significant observer and sampling error. In recent years, several non-invasive imaging methods have been developed to assess liver fibrosis. Transient elastography (Fibro Scan), an ultrasound-based technique. This technique is accurate and safe means for assessing the severity of fibrosis in chronic liver disease.
